Umweltbundesamt (The Environment Agency Austria)


The Environment Agency Austria (EEA) is the leading Austrian expert organisation for all environmental issues and media. The EEA works for the conservation of nature and the environment, and thus contributes to the sustainable development of society. Its core tasks include the monitoring, management and evaluation of environmental data. The EEA employees work in five fields: Economy & Impact, Nature & Usages, Substances & Analysis, Data & Diagnosis and IT Services & Solutions.
The EEA experts provide recommendations for decision-makers in politics, business and administration and develop strategic perspectives and scenarios for the achievement of environmental policy targets in Austria and Europe.

The EEA promotes interdisciplinary expertise in all environmental disciplines, as well as in software development and the operation of applications, air quality monitoring, chemical and GMO analysis and project management.

Role

The EEA will provide expertise on environmental risk assessment and monitoring of GMOs and will contribute to WP 2, 3, 5 and 9. In WP 2 the EEA will conduct a survey of regional protection goals in the different regions in Europe which will form part of the basis for the development of a decision system for selecting regions for field trials. In WP 5 the EEA will participate in the elaboration of a general framework and a toolbox for an integrated ERA/PMEM. Dr. Andreas Heissenberger and Dr. Michael Eckerstorfer will be working on the project activities.
