AMIGA project is at the forefront of research in the area of biosafety of genetically modified plants. While its activities are still ongoing, the soundness of its approach and the value of its outreach activities is making the project being perceived as an outstanding contribution to the knowledge of the subject. Recently Carol Cronin and Sandra Tiernan, the authors of an Irish school book, have used AMIGA experiments with cisgenic potatoes in Ireland as an example to explain the potential of plant biotechnology and the environmental questions around it. The book “Breaking ground” is used by students of Irish technical agricultural schools as a textbook for preparing their final exam to obtain the Leaving Certificate.
